Jesus was definitely an apostate. He healed on the sabbath, and encouraged others to deviate from the laws. Love your god, and your neighbour was his main theme. Even JW's acknowledge that Jesus brought an end to the Mosaic laws. Can't get much more apostate than that! So by OT definition, Jesus was an apostate. CT Russell was an apostate. Rutherford was an apostate. The majority of JWs today were in other religions, that they turned their backs on and now denounce. They are all apostates. So am I, and I reiterate that following the course of Jesus can't be a bad thing.

JW's have to get past their arrogance and realize that they do not have a monopoly on the concept of apostacy.

My mother had a breakdown over all this JW crap. She still is in a constant state of anxiety, depression and deep sadness. She was hospitalized for a couple of weeks, but didn't improve. She was told by an elder not to mention the JW stance on shunning family members who don't believe the WT teachings.

Very sad. The solution to her problems are obvious, but neither she, nor my father can see it.

I hate that cult!

Reniaa, you missed my point. If you put any stock whatsoever in OT scriptures, then Jesus was an apostate. That was the point. Jesus was an apostate. If, by JW definition, I am an apostate, then that means Jesus and I have something in common. How can that be a bad thing?

With regard to the WTS's broad generalizations about "apostates" I suppose using the same logic I could say that since some JWs molest children, then all JWs molest children. Just because some who have escaped the cult have been very vocal and visible doesn't mean to say all are. I never talk about all this crap because it's not important. The only reason I'm here now is because of issues that have arisen beyond my control. As soon as it settles down, I will be able to stop thinking about this JW nonsense again.

Excellent videos! I look forward to seeing more.

As far as apostacy goes, wouldn't Jesus have fit the OT definition of an apostate too? And what about Rutherford? C.T. Russells followers are still around today, so wouldn't Rutherford be considered an apostate, by the JW's modern interpretation of apostacy? He really was the one who founded the JW's, not Russell.

For me, these lyrics by Neal Peart pretty much sum it up:

I still cling to hope
And I believe in love
And that's faith enough for me

I don't completely dismiss the idea of a higher power, but religion in any way shape or form is not the ticket. I will live a good life, do the right thing every time, and raise my children to do the same. Why do that? Because it's the right thing to do. If that finds favour with someone somewhere down the road then so be it. If not, at least I will die with the satisfaction that in some small way maybe I was part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Can't speak with me, unless they need something

after many, many years outside of the jw world, my elderly parents finally decided to give me an ultimatum.

i either rejoin the jw's or they will never speak with me again.

apparently my brother is going to get the same choice.

Thank you everyone for your kind responses, and feedback. I really appreciate it.

I did fail to mention that I am neither DF'd or DA'd. However I did make it very clear that I will never rejoin their cult, and that I stongly believe it to be wrong. I've never submitted a letter to that effect simply because that is their rules and they don't apply to me. How they (the JWs) want to handle the paper work on me is not my concern.

I did get 2 calls from my father last night, the first to tell me that they were hasty since I have never been "officially" announced. He called back 10 minutes later to reinforce the fact that I am being shunned. Sounds like a classic case of cognitive dissonance to me.

As for keeping in contact with the grandkids, no, sorry, we are a package deal. I have kept them sheltered from the insanity of this cult, and I intend to continue to do that. I do not want them to experience the trauma of being an outcast in school the way I did being born into that mess.

After many, many years outside of the JW world, my elderly parents finally decided to give me an ultimatum. I either rejoin the JW's or they will never speak with me again. Apparently my brother is going to get the same choice. It was a no-brainer, I chose option B.

They offered to "study" with me, for which I agreed, if I was allowed equal time to present my case as to why there is no way the JW's have the "truth". Of course they refused that offer, as I knew they would. To be honest, it's been a long time since I've even thought about anything JW related, as is evident by the length of time since I posted here.

Anyway, my father made a statement something along the lines of "we will no longer speak or associate with you, but I will call you if I need some physical help". I said "say what?". He says they are allowed to associate with DF'd or DA'd ones if they need some kind of help (like change a flat tire or something like that). I said "Isn't that handy". I think the sarcasm was lost on him. My wife (who never was a JW) is furious that they think they can shut me (and by extension their 3 little grandchildren) out, but still call up when they need something.

Does anyone know if they really have a loop hole like that? Seems an awful lot like "having your cake and eating it too" so it's probably true.

I'll keep an eye on the paper and see what results from your letter. I don't really know anything about this tract (my elderly parents avoid any topics having to do with the JW's) but if it can be used against the WT society, then great!

Boycotting Israel

i see that quite a few are following the dreadful attacks in lebanon.

today i went swimming to cool off with mr c and we were discussing what ways we could make our disapproval and anger at israels actions felt, besides being human shields.

(mr c reckons i'm big enough to stop one missile, but would be pretty useless after that.

Be careful. It is illegal to boycott Israeli goods in the USA. Check this out: http://www.boycottwatch.org/abi/divest002.htm I read a while ago (I can't find a link, sorry) that over $23 million dollars in fines have been handed out for attempting to boycott Israeli goods, and for even inquiring if a product is made in Israel. That too is against the law in the good old US of A.
